This is one of my favourite Francolins, seeing it in relatively open areas is very rare, obviously the look down viewpoint is not the best, but if I had gotten out of the vehicle it would have run!
Taken in Hwange National Park, Zombabwe.
EOS 1DX
200-400mm F4 with 1.4 ex at 560mm
F6.3
ISO 800

Ken,
Good catch, especially if they are difficult to find in the open. Birds give us the body and head position they wish, but still we yearn for the perfect posture. That said, a little head turn would have made this so much better, but we take what we are given. :toast:

Nice one, Ken. I like the cocked head.

Yep, vehicle as blind. I know it well. Terrific capture, with a great head angle and sweet light. I also like that the terrain shows how good the camo is; if the bird were hunkered down on the ground you'd step on it before you saw it.
