I went out today around noon for a trial run. Will move up close in the days ahead and try for a much tighter frame. And earlier with better light as well.. I think these little beetles look cool inflight, so I'm motivated:wink:
F/11, 1/800th, ISO 500, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 with monopod for support. Full frame @ 12:28pm

Nice capture of the small beetle in flight. The beetle is very sharp. I agree that getting closer on just the flower and the beetle would give this more impact. I do like the exposure on the flower and the separation from the bg.

Nice shot! I actually like the beetle nested under the petals better...He looks so cute. And, you even got a partial of a spider on the right. May have been high noon, but it was a good time for the bugs

I like this a lot - a little bit of action - the hidden bug underneath, good mix of colors and the thorns give a sense of scale. Really well done

Love this kind of image, Howard - the beautifully captured beetle hovering over the buds and flowers, bathed in light and shade. It gets the feel of a moment in time.

Hi Howard. I find the beetle a special addition to a lovely look at the prickly pear bloom with the rear 3/4 light giving the bloom a fine glow. Great job getting the beetle sharp.
