Gentoo diving

It amazes me how these guys can live in such extremely cold and hostile environments. They usually dive in large groups to better their chances against predation by leopard seals and killer whales. This solitary gentoo probably looked around and found no lurking danger before taking the plunge.
Species: Gentoo penguin (Pygoscelis papua)
Location: on the Joe van Os safaris to the Antarctic, Falklands and South Georgia
Date: Nov, 2013
Equip: Canon 1Dx, Canon 70-200 f2.8 lens
Specs: ISO 1000, f4.5, 1/5000s, evaluative metering, with +1.33 exp comp, aperture priority, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley head.

Thank you for taking the time out to look, and for your comments/critiques.

This is a really cool perspective with the ice falling away as the bird dives. What a world they live in. Sharon

Ajit,
Very nice shot. What timing to catch him in mid-dive with the ice falling away. :toast:
