Barred Owlets

This pair of owlets was found by a friend on her property. Expecting to just see a single owlet, I was surprised that after about twenty minutes onsite the second owlet popped up behind his sibling. Flash was necessary because the owlets were recessed within the tree cavity, and even with the nest facing directly south the branches obscured any direct light reaching them.

This was taken from about 17 meters from the nesting tree.

This image is very high on the cute factor Chuck, nice job with the fill flash it looks quite natural. I could see cropping some off the bottom because the trunk is oof there but it would eliminate the "virtual" invisible bottom half of the birds so I can see why you chose the crop you did. Well done. :toast:

Very nice, Chuck. I do think that you could bring up the overall exposure just slightly. Great catch! :toast:

Chuck,
Good look at these tow owlets. Light looks pretty natural to me Very cute for sure. Like the head tilt on the right bird. Nice job getting close without spooking them.

Nice use of flash, love the textures of the owlets and the bark, excellent.
