Burrowing Owlet at Zanjero Park, Gilbert, Arizona

1/3200 at f9 and ISO640
Canon 500mm
Canon 7D

Thanks all for your critiques over the past 299 posts -- I am a better photographer for it.

This owlet is about 6 weeks old and close to six inches from the tip of his tail to the top of his head. I am violating a birding rule in that you cannot see the eyes and in owls its all about the eyes. When you violate a rule sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I like the general feel about the eyes down look here -- besides - how often to you get to see eyelashes on an owl?

Congrats on the 300 posts. I too think the eyelashes are cool.

Looks like a conductor, beginning a great symphonic piece. The perch is cool; is that ocotillo? :toast:

Yes, I agree, the eyelashes are worth violating the rules! Wonderful shot with all those lovely brown and buff tones, the very soft looking breast, and the holes in the branch really clinch it.
