Yellow-bellied Flycatchers are historically uncommon in Interior Alaska. A small number have been found in the last few years nesting on 60-year old mining dredge tailings north of town. It's not their classic habitat. We tracked this fellow down last night.

60% of full frame. Adjustments to levels and brightness. Selective sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Good photo - good story! I wish the flycatchers head was just a bit more turned towards the camera. Why did you need to use ISO 4000? Not too bad noise for that ISO. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Jim,
What a good look at an uncommon species for your area. I like the pose of the Flycatcher as is, it projects a real attitude and allows the light to hit her straight on without shadows from the bill. The subject and perch separate well from the nice BG. I especially like the colors of the branches you achieved from this POV and the detail in the larger version is outstanding. I have been impressed with the high ISO images from the 1D-X and this image is further proof that I need to get me one as a second camera to partner with my 7D.
Very  Man !
