That Time of Year

We enjoyed loads of baby animal action during this year's spring trip to Yellowstone. On this particular day, I think my clients and I had as many as eight different species with offspring, and that didn't count the popular bear cubs that were occupying most visitors' attention.

Around the end of May, elk calves start dropping in the park. The Mammoth area is a popular spot for them (one could speculate that the human activity and traffic in the village keeps most predators away). In this case, we found a "nursery" with six calves frolicking about early one morning. The moment the sun--and some gorgeous light--hit them, they all slumped down into the heavy sage brush for a nap, so we had to take what we could get in the shade.

Very nice Max. I love the attentive nuzzle from mom. Both are in reasonably sharp focus also. Well done.

Interesting tight composition Max,
but it adds to the coziness that is evident in the image IMHO
The parent's eye is almost popping out  but relatively the younger one is not that sharp, i think you can easily fix it if you want (but it's a subjective thing)

I like the comp here Max and think it was a good decision and really shows the interaction well.

Nice job of getting both mom and calf within the focal zone. I think the overall effect. You might experiment with darkening the background a touch.
