Backyard Fireworks

I hit near mid-day trying for a hummer shot today. We normally don't buy fireworks, so this is my 4th of July celebration in color:smile:

F/7.1, 1/2000th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext. Clear/sunny.
The flash fired using + 1/3 power and an exposure bias of -1 stop.
The head/eye was a bit dark in the original, brought it up as far as possible.

I've got no complaints, Howard. More of a hummer than I have ever caught. The counterpoise of the Zinnia to the hummer balances out the picture. The background with the varicolored washes is to die for. Really, really good! :toast:

Wow, Howard. This is really good. The combo of the zinnia, hummer, and that sweet background all EXPLODE to make a real keeper. Nice. Happy fourth to you and and your family. :wavey:

Nice job, Howard, especially for mid-day. I normally give up on hummers well before then. This doesn't look like a typical hummingbird nectar source, though I've seen them go for some strange flowers off and on.

Outstanding, Howard. Love the comp and bg. Great hummer shot particularly given that it isn't a set up. Is this one of the zinnias you planted? They're paying big time dividends. :toast:

Certainly colorful. I like the profile view of the hummingbird and it's sharp where it needs to be.

I really like the s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out look and overall reach of this little guy. Can't say I ever seen a capture like this one before, Howard. Very nice work as always......

Nice one again Howard, although in this case I think that the bright colors in the BG are a little competing for attention with the subject and perch.. nevertheless, wish it was mine  . Cheers, Hans

Beautiful flower and bg here Howard, hummer is nice and sharp but I don't like the wing position too much just about covering the eye. :toast:
