Metallic Day Lily

The shape of this lily really appealed to me. I didn't want leaves, stem or a background to distract from the form of the flower. I love black backgrounds anyway and didn't need much convincing to try it here. The metallic sheen on the petals was also something I liked, so I didn't use a polarizer.

Please see the large image.

Does the floating flower work? Too shiny? Please let me know what you think.

Nikon D800 2 sec @ f/22. Tripod. Image taken indoors in natural daylight. No crop.

Thanks, as always for your comments and critiques. I really appreciate it.

Sanjay

I agree that the shape of the flower is beautiful. Sometimes I don't like flowers floating in blackness, but in this case I think it works really well. I don't think it's too shiny, I love the metalic sheen. Very nicely done!

Sanjay ..I initially thought this is made of some metal. This one works very well for me, and one needs an eye to make such images..inspiring...

Some may not like the 'floating' aspect, but it works for me Sanjay.
Good placement in the original frame, it's a beautiful DL..
Love the reds on black, attractive sheen as well :toast:

This flower is perfectly suited to a black background. Striking image.

Sanjay - Great mood and textures in this. I'd let go off all the empty space as much as possible and show the Lily bigger in the frame so that more of that metallic sheen and textures can be enjoyed.

Very creative, Sanjay ! I like the floating aspect on the black ( though there might just be a touch less bg for my taste ) and the treatment of the petals with their shadows is simply gorgeous !!

Hi Sanjay :wavey: Agree about liking the metallic sheen on the petals  :jump:  the floating effect also works for me, but like the others even less BG would be better to show off this stunning image :toast

Everything works well to me, including the black bg, but I agree with Ram to crop a little to make the flower bigger in the frame. :toast:
