Stopped off at one of my favorite spots to show my wife. Bayou Sauvage NWR. Saw these black bellied whistling ducks wading. Beautiful sight to see such marvelous birds. Normally would have the 300mm f/4 with TC but had my 70-300 as we'd been out helping friends move and the stop wasn't planned.

Nikon D610, 70-300mm VR
ISO 400
f/5.6
1/3200 sec.

Really nice shot, Alan; don't think I've ever seen these ducks before. Always great to see photos from a NWR because I volunteer at one here in CT. The lighting is really good, highlighting the ducks nicely, and I like the composition, showing a small group in different poses with some spacing between each. The included foreground adds a nice touch too.

Those are neat looking ducks and they're spaced nicely across the frame. The duck's colors stand out nicely from the green grass and blue water. I think you could crop off the top 1/3rd and have an image that tells the same story.

This definitely would work better as a pano crop. I first saw these ducks in the summer of 2007 here in central Kansas, which at the time was the 13th or so accepted record for the species in the state. I was new to photography and birding and had captured a photo at an area NWR and couldn't believe the ID simply because the species was very rare. They have since become more common but still rare.
