Common Texas Grasshopper (Melanoplus differentialis) basking in natural late afternoon light. The zinnia garden perch reminded me of a 'throne', as this king surveys his empire.
F/10, 1/800th, ISO 400, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext, monopod for support.

 I'll have some nightmares tonight after seeing this guy up close......

The light seems to be perfect for this scene and the resulting fine detail you've been able to capture here, Howard. Once again, you've made excellent use of the monopod too.
As a once years ago wildlife chaser myself with my 35mm gear the pod was the only way to go while afoot in the field.
Very good job here..... :toast:

Well, how cute is this? It's beyond cute, however. It's also a one of a kind image. I think this is print worthy, competition worthy, stock worthy, etc. :toast: :jump:

Hi Howard,

Nicely done with contrasting colors. The head of the 'hopper is in focus and the composition is ideal.......................Jim

This hopper does look like it's in charge and about to give an order to its minions. (Has me thinking Yertle the Turtle of grasshoppers. ) Love the lighting and clarity on the hopper and the color from the oof zinnias.
