Here is a bull with symmetry and size that I hope to keep up with in a few weeks!

hey Lon,
Wow - super solid capture...majestic subject with a great pose, beautiful light, near perfect DoF, great background, good compositional decisions...what's not to like? And the processing on this one is just excellent. I have to say the colour - and especially the tonal gradations - rendered by that D600/610 sensor really appeals to me.
Sweet.
Cheers...
Brad

That is one giant rack. Definitely try to keep tabs on this guy. I agree with Brad in all aspects. Just a sensational image. Well done. Where was this taken?

Jerry, this guy is roaming in Wind Cave National Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Thanks for the feed back, all.

Hi Lon! I've sadly been completely taken away with work responsibilities this year, but man did I pick a great week to jump back in as much as I'm able to...I'm a sucker for bull elk and this one is a looker to say the least. Can't believe he's got this level of development in July! He will definitely be worth the effort to keep track of. Beyond the beauty of the animal, there is great beauty in this image as well. I love the quality and angle of light and his stunning pose looking not only back over his shoulder but into the light in a way that adds great form and "sculpting" to his face (and amps up those velvet-covered antlers as well!).
I see you're shooting a D610 now! I'm in love with my D600, but certainly hated Nikon's handling of the debris/oil issues, which cropped up for me in less than 1000 actuations and became ridiculous in a very short period of time. I won't derail this thread grumbling, but now that I'm back in biz with a new shutter I'm just delighted with the quality and feel of the files it produces. I hope you feel the same way about yours. It certainly handled the dynamic range of this image wonderfully!
