It is not very often I take images of Guinea Fowl, as I have another version in my back garden most days, but I could not resist this one, a first sighting. Unfortunately the opportunities were few and far between and usually early morning or late at night in poor light. Taken in Laikipia, Kenya.
EOS 1DX
200-400 mm F4 at 280 mm
F 8
ISO 800
1/100

Nice job, Ken and a beautiful bird from the neck down. From what I've heard of the 1Dx you shouldn't have any problem cranking the iso up quite a bit higher if you want to.

Beautiful and ugle at the same time, as crazy as that sounds. Those chest feathers and that blue are spectacular. The head, not so much. I noticed you were at 280mm. Did you get and tighter shots with just a single bird? A closer look at that feather detail would be nice.

Dennis,
I am not really a fan of high ISO, but have been known to go to 3200 with the 1DX .
I think it stems from my earliest attempts with a GAF reversal film which was rated at 500
Jerry,
Most of my shots were very poor which in the main resulted not only from poor conditions but from the ineptitude of our "guide" :frown:
