Texas Whitetail Fawn

I recently purchased a Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS II zoom lens and went to the local Nature Center to check it out. Found this fawn along with his mom resting in the shade. Decided to shoot wide open just to see what it would do. Still learning how to get the best out of this lens. I really like it so far.

Processed using Photoshop CS3and LightZone. Comments and critiques welcome.

Jerry,
Great pose here, and a beautiful animal, who needs anything else? :toast: :toast:

Hi Jerry! Nice one! I love the pose, the contrasting colours and textures, and the beautiful OOF background (speaking of which, nice DOF! ). Josiah and I have been after a fawn to point our lenses at for a while after they started dropping about a month ago all around our home. I cannot believe we have the population we do (though in our case the deer immediately in and around our acreage are usually mulies) and yet the fawns have eluded us. So I'm jealous.

Looking forward to more from your new glass!

I love shooting with the Nikon 70-200, so I'm sure you will enjoy your Canon as well. Like John, I too have been mostly stymied when it comes to finding fawns to photograph even thought adults are seemingly everywhere. (I had a great opportunity last summer, with twins, but after shooting a great sequence discovered that I had removed the memory cards from the camera and forgot to replace them!!! I was too shocked at my error to get mad, spilled milk) You really got a nice head turn Jerry, and enough dof to get those spots in focus too. I'm not too sure about the presence of the dark upper left corner. More dof and perhaps a bit more of the darker vegetation might have worked to give it more presence as a design element vs an intrusion into the frame. Minor nit at most Jerry, as I really like the photo over all! :toast:

Terrific pose here, Jerry. Neat that you got close enough to get it looking at you but not so close as to spook it (at least yet... ). The surrounding grasses make a fine background.
