Willet Mud Dive

This Willet was tolerant enough to allow me to follow around for about an hour late this afternoon on the beach in Gulfport. After shooting several frames in various poses, most with the eye visible, I thought this one with the eye closed worked best. Eventually the bird came up with some sort of morsel. Full frame, larger image included.

I've never seen them go in this deep - interesting and "different". Love the sand and blue water, and the bit of blue around the head.
Great image!

I've never seen a Willet probe that deeply, either. Great capture. Just enough color to keep it interesting.

A very neat image, Bill. Unusual and yet very effective. The smooth mud makes a wonderful bg.
