I'm blue when I fly

This guy was sitting few inches above the ground level...green grass down. I got the brightness behind the butter fly to give a little highlight also wanted to bring in a little more visibility to the grass below on right side of the frame, but by then he vanished...5% cropped from left and bottom to avoid few distracting elements... I like this a lot, but see some possible improvements.
Nice butterfly and interesting perch, along with a very complimentary BG.
Aesthetically, IMO, the angle of the butterfly and perch is not optimal and feels a little uncomfortable to me. I think a more traditional perch angle, with the butterfly on the left side of a more upright weed, might work better. You might have to have a square-ish crop to try this. Crop the right side to a little right of the butterfly, then flip the whole thing counter-clockwise 45-90-180 degrees.
I'm having a hard time visualizing this, and it might not work at all - but it might work better.
Nice catch, at any rate!

I like the detail and simple BG. I agree with Sandy about the awkwardness of the perch. Worth looking at some rotation, anyway.

Very nice image of this butterfly and beautiful bg! The angle of the butterfly doesn't bother me at all. It just looks to me like he's looking down at something on the ground.

Hi,

I would not change the posture of this butterfly in your photo. This lycaenid chose to perch that way and that's what nature offered the photographer! Notice that the butterfly's tarsi have much more area of the flower head to grab hold of with this head-down position. A vertical composition may have worked better, but from your narrative, you probably did not have much room below. The lighter area behind the butterfly helps pull the subject from the background..........................Jim

Very nice, Swathiraj. Put me in the camp who has no problem with the position of the BF. I like the perch and bg as well. I wonder about the ample empty space, but it works in a minimalist way. Overall, well done. :toast:
