Actually just preening, but I like this kind of pose. Perched on an apple tree near one of our feeder stations. The green in the beak is a piece of apple leaf. I believe the glean them for insects and larvae.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f8, 1/1000, iso 640, -2/3 stop compensation, pattern metering, aperture priority. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped from the horizontal to 5.2MP of the original 16. None of the standard crops seemed to work quite right, so I just moved the sides until I liked this one. Taken yesterday at 7:21 am. Fairly early sun filtered through some morning fog.

Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

Thanks,

Wonderful light and pose Dennis, I too like preening shots, and this is very well presented. :toast:

I like this one Dennis,
Very unique BG that works perfectly with the Subject and that nice perch. The lighting you managed pulls it all together into a well presented composition.

Dennis - this is one of my favourite avian images of the week. Beautiful pose, wonderful background, great perch and gorgeous light all come together for a striking shot. The detail is fantastic as well, and you obviously nailed the techs. I like your choice in comps as well. Nice one is a significant understatement!
