Shooting in the redwood forests, one thing that can be a bit challenging is conveying the size of the trees when they are all huge. So I began looking for comps that had some saplings (still 40-50 feet high) and older trees. I posted a photo of this in the Landscape Gallery awhile ago but decided to play with this a bit in photoshop using some of the artistic filters and then doing some brush work by hand to fix areas that needed it. I'd love to hear your critiques and suggestions!

Link to photo in Landscape (posted it as B&W and did a repost further down in color):

I much prefer the colors in this version to the Landscape post. I think the "posterization" add some interesting textures and a nice, but subtle sense of abstraction. Well done, Scott.

I like the effect of the filter. I might have warmed up the color balance a bit.

I like the image. It has a very painterly look to it.

Scott, I personally like this better in Black and White. The small tree in the center helps to convey a sense of size.

Scott, if you have any photos of people hiking, they might be added in a composite. But not sure.

Best,
Carol

A masterful looking painting effect, Scott. Beautifully done, and a great original capture, too, I must say.

Fine painterly treatment. Esp compared to the b & w which I usually prefer, your treament really makes the photo pop.
