Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery, near San Simeon, California

I was driving up the Pacific Coast Highway and saw the sign for the Rookery and decided to stop. It was quite the sight with a few hundred of these seals all up and down the beach. The one on the right had just came onto the beach and was trying to make its way to a clear spot when the other two took exception to his intrusion. I fired off a few shots and this was the only one that had all three with eyes visible. The whole thing only lasted about 15 seconds then the two on the left went back to sleep and the third climbed over them and eventually found a spot on the crowded beach.

Any critiques or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Shadow and highlight define this lovely image, and fur texture adds more. It's great the way you picked out this trio from the mob to make a pleasing composition, and the fact that you caught the interactive behavior makes this a more interesting image. Good job! Ron

Very interesting trio. Very nice interaction. The light looks just a bit harsh, but you handled it well.

Good job with the three way interaction. Somehow the flipper "toes" in both top corners are an interesting addition to the image, rather than what I would have guessed to serve as visual distraction. Fun posting.
