Monviso by night + repost

Hi everyone,
it's been (again  ) a long time since my last post here. I've just given an eye to the images posted in the last few days and saw quite some very nice pictures with the milky way on them, and so I thought to post one of mine.

I took this one a few days ago in a night without moon. The Monviso is one of the most famous mountains of the whole Alps range for its unmistakable shape and for the its prominence. This picture is the result of two-image blend, one taken at 10:30 pm for the foreground, and the second at 1 am for the mountain peaks and the sky. The light on the peaks comes from the city of Turin, 60 kms. away to the east. The small stream in the fields in the foreground is the Po river, the longest and largest river of Italy, that has its sources right at the foot of this beautiful mountain.

Thanks for viewing and commenting, your suggestions are as always highly appreciated. Please view it larger and in dim light, otherwise most of the subtle details in the fg will be hard to see

Oops, I forgot to provide the techs: Canon Eos 70D, Canon EF-S 10-22 - Two image blend: 10" @ f8 ISO 100 for the fg (at 10:30pm) and 25" @ f3,5 ISO 3200, processed in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop CS6. I've also forgot to say that this camera does wonders with high ISOs in low light, it's actually amazing. Not exactly the same quality of a full frame, but quite close up to 3200 ISO

I like the composition and the MW looks good. Personally, I feel the land portion is too dark. This seems to be a common trend with MW images, so yours it's in line with the norm. Still, it would be nice to have more texture, like on the highest mountain, I think.

I like the natural presentation here, Paolo, none of the garish colors you often see in MW shots. Good work!

Nice Milky way photo, I also think the FG is too dark, I might have used a longer setting with a higher iso for it.
I like the hint of the water, just would like to see more of it.

I agree the foreground is too dark, given that it's so prominent an element. The galaxy looks great, and that is a gorgeous mountain.

I am glad to see your return to post. Your photos add much. I like the different sky tints of blue, scarlet, and grey. The MWay is positioned perfectly atop the mtn. That takes patience. Good details near horizon and a bit dark below where there is a few bleached bones of a stream. Nicely done.

Hi everyone, thanks much for your feedback. My aim here is to give the most possible natural look to what is, at the end, a night scene, I do think however that the image is too dark as presented here, although most of this issue comes from the small size and the bright background. At full resolution, with a black background and in dim light everything in the foreground is very subtle of course, but recognizable. However, here's a repost reprocessed with a brighter foreground. Thanks again for your comments, I appreciate that.

Paolo, Really nice seeing another post from you! I have always enjoyed your work very much. I like this image a lot and enjoy the realistic look and mood. Also the larger version is really worth the look. The repost works well on the web here but I'm sure the original is impressive if we could see it larger and on a dark background as you mentioned. Excellent work on this night shot. Going to take a look at your website to catch up on some of your work!

Hi Paolo. Glad to see a post from you. I really like your repost best with more detail visible in the foreground. Excellent exposure and very natural appearance.

Excellent composition. Nothing wrong with having a night image be very dark - that is a priori realistic! Having so much total black is a bit disconcerting though, so the second image is a bit easier to look at.
