Because of the tight space, it was not possible to get much separation for this skipper among the tightly packed coneflowers. Tried for the best compromise between subject focus and bg. D600, 150 macro, iso 500, 1/1000, hh. Comments, suggestions, and questions welcome. :wavey:

Great view of the coneflower and this Silver Spotted Skipper, Scott, against a lovely colorful background. Given the challenges that you mention it's hard to see doing better unless the bf held still long enough for a stack and those are extremely challenging hand held. Yes, it would be nice to have all of the bf sharp, but that's clearly a shot for another day.

Hi Scott,

I never captured one of these skippers as well as you have done here. They never give you much time. The background is nice and the head of the skipper is sharp..............................Jim

The separation looks fine to me, Scott, and the colours of the bg are pure delight. The sharpness of the head and proboscis more than make up for the slight softness of the wingtips.

Scott: Not sure it gets any better than this; great perch, wonderful BG and pristine subject. Most excellent. >=))>
