I captured this pelican at the Fort Worth Zoo. At the time, I was trying out my new Canon 200-400 f4 L IS lens. I thought the shot fit nicely into this week's category.

Processed using Photoshop CS3, NeatImage and LightZone. Comments and critiques welcome.

Canon 7D
Canon 200-400 f4 L IS
f6.3
1/320s
ISO 320
Focal Length 560mm (Teleconverter Engaged)

After you captured it, did the zoo folks make you let it go???? You've got great details here, Jerry, especially in the eye. I also like the partially open bill. Neat close up.

Mark,

I got as far as the parking lot, but the zoo guys made me give him back.

Nice "capture," Jerry. Excellent detail and a fine bg for the white pelican and the brown eye.

Nice clear detail in both the eye and feathers-too bad you had to surrender the bird

Hey Jerry, looks like you started a bit of a pelican trend! Excellent detail, you nailed the eye perfectly. Love the slightly open mouth, it adds character.

Too bad the guys at the zoo made you give him back
