An old Goldfinch Shot

I was digging back in my records to find the original of a shot I took a few years ago and ran across this one from the same session that I didn't bother processing at the time. The one I was looking for also had most of the flowers in the focal plane, so they were very sharp. In some ways I like the slight softness to them in this image as it tends to focus my attention more on the bird. If you're interested in comparing the two, I posted the other one here: http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=174157&CGISESSID=0166fe48f01a5d46746835205d19b259&u=11211

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on Gitzo legs, f8, 1/4000, iso 1000 (I think I was trying to get take-off shots), -1/3 stop exposure compensation, pattern metering, aperture priority. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 5.4MP from a horizontal 16MP original. Taken at 7:02 pm on June 1st, 2011.

Comments are always appreciated.

Thanks,

You certainly rediscovered a gem, the yellow finch along side the red of the flowers is quite pleasing to the eye. A wonderful pose and perfect BG that makes the subjects pop. :toast:

A great find in the old files! I like the color and detail in the goldfinch. I do wish the columbine blooms were sharper. Thanks for sharing.

This is real nice Dennis. I followed the link to the other image, if I had to choose I would pick the first one but they are both outstanding. Such a complimentary color scheme and super clean BG. :toast:

Lovely image Dennis and what a great surprise to uncover. Ventured back at the previous post mentioned above and although this is a fine image, I prefer the other- I think not only because of the detail throughout the image, but also the darker background, which allows the finch to really standout.

A really gorgeous shot Dennis, love the background, comp, position of the bird, lighting and details. The only thing I could ask for would be a little more depth of field to get all of the flower in focus, but that's very minor and this is a super shot as posted. :toast:

The two primary colors really stand out against the subdued background. Lovely!

The color combination here is fantastic. I don't mind the variable focal plane. At least the larger, open flowers are all on the same plane, which makes the "layers" work even better together.

Wow Dennis....How did you lose sight of this one. Simply stellar in every way. I like the in focus and out of focus flowers as it adds dimension to the image. I simply love the background and the perch is over the top. Great pose. Excellent exposure. Simply stunning Dennis. :toast:

Wonderful image Dennis. Nicely composed. Nice pose from the bird and I love the mostly in focus perch.
