This image is bittersweet for me. For most of the past 35 years my wife and I have visited my in-laws in northwest New Mexico. From their house, it's a quick run up to the mountains around Durango, Colorado, where I took this image last week. Unfortunately, they are at an age where they are wanting to live closer to their children, and they have put their house up for sale. It's the circle of life, but it's been such a wonderful part of my life that it's hard to see it end.

Quite a scene, John. I love this little drainage just filled with wildflowers and crowned by that amazing peak and sky. Small nit would be there is some distortion on the right ridge line trees. If it were mine, and I wish it was, I might remove them. Sorry to hear about the life change for you in-laws. Perhaps they could accompany you, once a year or so, to visit these lovely spots in Southern Colorado, northern new Mexico. (as long as they are able). Traveling does get harder, but my Dad enjoyed it to the end. :wavey:

Hi John, your processing extracts the most beauty from this. I think others would have butchered it and none would enjoy it. The success of this is your skill beyond finding pure compositions. Soft light, as in a narrow histogram, seems evident. Yet, there is depth in the details, texture, and a sense of front to back distance.

I share your pang of seeing parents moving away from their ‘homestead’ …my folks have been located just outside Sequoia Nat’l Park since 1973… I have profound memories of visiting them since leaving home at 18 over 40 yrs ago. Now mom is in a nursing home and dad, as he nears 92 years, is just occupying the house with help from others. Their time remaining is short. I will miss them …and their home. Tough times… blessing on you and yours.

Beautiful scene John. The light and your processing are just superb. No suggestions on my part.

For the past thirty five years my wife and I have returned home to sixty acres of prairie and black jack oak near Skiatook, OK from Denver several times a year. Her Dad died three years ago and her Mom died last October and we won't be going back. It is difficult and sometimes hard to believe.

We'll both be retired as of the end of this week though and we're really looking forward to seeing the West and visiting all the places we never saw because we were traveling to OK. I've found that the photography helps a lot with the transition. Best wishes to you.

Beautiful scene John, definitely has your signature. My sister and her husband built a camp on Schroon River [Adirondacks] in the early sixties, and after her husband died, it became her home, she once told me, when she couldn't cut and split her own wood, it would be time to leave the Mountain, that happened last year at the age of 85, and my frequent trips to the Adirondacks came to an end. Definitely miss it.

Wonderful soft light - and sweet mountain view. Is that a road cut into the distant mnt? I know Colorado is know for that kind of thing. Hopefully you will have new opportunities as a result of the life changes. From a procesing standpoint, the shadow look a little on the yellow/warm side, so I might try adjusting them slightly. This might add some additional contrast without blocking up the shadows with added contrast adjustment. Very minor, looks great as is. :toast:

A beautiful view with gorgeous light and processing. With colorful sunsets, I often see images with contrasting colors that are not necessarily complementary, but all the colors/cast work very well in this one indeed.

John, this is really beautiful and should make a wonderful print. I could see a bit of contrast added, but not so much as to lose being able to see into the gorge. Excellent scene....

It is bittersweet when a chapter closes in your life John. We just have to remember the great times and smile...

As far as this image is concerned, the near/far comp works wonderfully to give it depth. The sky is very nice as well, and your usual stellar processing puts it over the top. Great work!

Superb processing, but maybe a little on the warm side. Would have liked some specs on this one. Time does move on.

Oh wow, close up colorful foreground, nice diagonal in the middle, majestic peaks and sky in the back. I like it just how it is. Sorry I’m no help.

Good to see you up and active again.

The subdued lighting is truly magical in this scene; perfect for showcasing all the little details. Your processing is superb as usual, John. This is a fitting testimony to the circle of life. As one door closes hopefully another will open in it's place.

Lovely shot...looks like it could use some contrast...middle greys are a bit...grey/flat. Dig the colors and light here. And all good things must come to an end eh? :toast:

I like the composition a lot. I do think it could handle just a bit more contrast--but just a bit. I really like the mountains and the sky.
