Yes, Another Goldfinch

From the same session as my last post. At one time there were five or six birds feeding in one relatively small clump of Anise Hyssop. I decided to leave the partial bird on the left in the composition to add to that feel. I did clone out several sprigs of the plant that I found distracting.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f8, 1/1250, iso 640, pattern metering, aperture priority. Processing in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 9.1MP from the original 16. Taken August 11th at 8:53 am. Filtered sun.

Your critiques are very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Good comp of a difficult setting. Excellent detail and pose. What exactly do you mean by "filtered sun"?

Another excellent post Dennis. I like the background colors and the comp as posted. I wonder though, if you have the pixels, if the image might show even stronger if you cropped from the left leaving just the single bird on the right in the comp. Just a thought. Nice work with these goldfinch, BTW. :toast:

Hi Phil: "filtered sun"=thin clouds or fog to the point where you start getting some shadows and some of the light quality of sunlight but it's mellowed out enough to make for good photography. Where I live, if we have a sunny summer day, it has a foggy period starting withing about half an hour either way of sunrise that lasts from 1-4 hours about 80% of the time. When that fog starts to thin, I can sometimes get up to an hour of decent light even with the sun fairly high.

Love the pose, sharp detail & great light Dennis.
I especially like that second finch playin' peek-a-boo there
Well done :toast:

Nice pose typical of the species. Good sharp detail. I tend to agree that a crop from the left would be worth trying. Seems a bit too busy on the left, but do enjoy the other bird being sneaky back there.

Hi Dennis, I like this shot but I prefer the first pose. The second finch is almost hidden in there.
