Hi gk, this is actually a plover, perhaps an American Golden Plover. Would be nice to have light in the eye but I do like the pose.

Based on the shadow I can see that this was backlit, hence the lack of nice light on the photographed side of the bird. Perfect place for using fill flash. Would have made all the difference in pulling this off as a successful image.

A great pose, GK. Exposure looks excellent and I like your angle. I do wish there were a little light in the birds eye, and it's looking a bit soft in the larger image.
