Another favorite image from my June trip to the Redwoods.

I thought the juxtaposition of the delicate rhododendron bloom set against the massive soaring Redwood trunk caused the whole to be better than the sum of its parts. The mist then added the finishing touch. C&C always welcome...

An astute title. The huge Redwoods with bark crevices you can lose your fist in, the delicate flower topped tracery of the Rhody and the softening and gentling touch of fog are nice pieces of a puzzle of creation. Well done! :toast:

Cool perspective.
The bark and flowers are really nice.
I might try to tone down the highlights at the top on both sides just a tad...

Beautiful composition and mood here Joe. However I would agree with Dan about toning down the highlights. Perhaps a little more tonal contrast in the bark would be considered also. But I do like this a lot.

I can see why this would be a favorite, Joe. The azalias add some eye catching color while your view of the redwoods indeed fit the description of "massive soaring Redwood trunk" to a T. Neat combo of near and far with the mist adding nicely to the sense the the Redwoods may soar on forever up there.

This is nice, Joe! I like your point of view here as it really makes you think about the strength and size of these trees. A very cool shot!

Lovely. The sense of a giant tree really comes through here.

I like both images, Joseph. You might consider pulling the blue out of the fog on the left. I think that with it being more neutral, like the fog to the right of the tree, the light would be balanced better. I like the composition a lot--very nice perspective.

The sense of the greatness of the trees comes through very well Top left feels more like flare than fog/mist to me- and I'm not a big flare fan. The edited version is an improvement.

Fantastic perspective and I love the juxtaposition of the rhodie against the redwood. This is a beauty, Joe.

Thanks guys. Preston, a version with the blue removed in the ULC as suggested. I agree, the light looks more balanced. Astute in your observations as always.

Having viewed quite a few deep forest scenes over the years, they to me seem to be the most difficult to get right in any fashion. I would think the compositions to start with can be very challenging with spacing, subjects, and all around logistics. With this all said this image provides a strong alternative to trying to capture a grand vista so to speak.
I like the scene for providing a delicate and a strong subject collectively. The Rhody and the Redwood fit that scale and viewing aspect so well.
I do believe the changes you made have provided a better image overall. So the third seems very right to me. Very nice work, Joe......

The in your face perspective is very effective, misty mood very nice as well. Your processing tweaks have improved the image.
