Great Blue Heron - UTMSI Port Aransas, TX 01-12-2014

EOS 7D 400 L f/5.6 1/640 ISO 200

Blue Heron in pond at UT Marine Science Institute near South Jetty.

Cropped by 30%. Use to use 7D and 400L f/5.6 lens, with single point AF expansion, exclusively for BIF subjects which trained me to capture most of my subjects near center of frame, due to the 1.6 cropped sensor. That combination led to a 680mm perspective. While fine for smaller moving subjects the larger subjects always seem to find their eyes toward the middle of the frame. Will use 5D Mk3, with 61 point AF, for larger subjects in the near future. Thanks for the comments.

Nice one, gk. I like the half hidden look of this one.

Well composed on the pro side. On the con side, too dark for the settings you cite. If your metering was correct, this should have been a bright day. The plumage appears plastic in places. Did you use noise reduction on this?

There's a lot less detail than I'd expect with the rig you describe. What was your post-processing? Noise reduction?
