Flight of the Queen

The Queen Butterfly's less than half the size of the Giant Swallowtail, so it's much harder to make a meaningful flight shot.
Their flight is more 'erratic' as compared to the swallowtail, which often incorporates more of a 'glide' or 'floating' movement..
F/5.6, 1/2500th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x & fill @ 12:12pm in partial shade. 70% of FF.

Outstanding in-flight capture, Howard. Very appealing in a minimalist sort of way. I like the BF's position in the bg behind opposite the flower, which emphasizes or even exaggerates the BF's small size. The BF is beautiful lighted and shows really well against the nice, contrasting green bg. Great colors. Once again, you absolutely nailed the in-flight focus, with the entire BF tack sharp. When you doing your own butterfly gallery show? :toast:

Great image Howard!! Fine color, nice BG, butterfly sharp, what more to want? Maybe a bit less space between the queen and the flower . Thank you for sharing.

Howard, All the butterflies’ flights are 'erratic' to me. Excellent flight catch as usual. :toast:
