Sleepy Barbet

During one of our morning drives in Africa I spied this Crested Barbet, which I affectionately call the world's "prettiest ugly bird" (lots of colors, but it's really not all that elegant ). It was still waking up, trying to stay warm on a cool morning.

I like how this view emphasizes the patterns in the bark while showing off the bird nicely.

Great framing from the tree on this one, Max, and lovely light.

A very nice comp Max, the tree kind of takes the show from the bird, but it's a cool tree anyway. :toast:

I like the bird, but I'm enjoying the bark texture too.

I like what you were going for Max and do like the tree textures and the framing, but for me the tree takes over the image and the bird isn't really the subject anymore. I personally think if you cropped off the top 1/2 it would make this much stronger for the bird. As long as that is what you intended to make as the subject.
