Coati on the Run

Corcovado is my favorite place in Costa Rica. Much of the exploration there takes place along the edges of the coastal rainforest, so you're often lucky enough to see wildlife scouring the open beaches, not just in the deep dark jungle.

Coatis are notorious scavengers, and spend a lot of time on the beach looking for crabs, turtle nests and I've even seen them trying to access coconuts. This one popped out at close range while I was armed with my big lens, so I wasn't able to get the full body in the frame as it ran by. I opted for the vertical crop as a result.

Good catch! I especially like the bent left forefoot, with the dirt cast from running. Here is the whole story of the Coati interrupted in rooting and "getting out of Dodge"! :toast:

A cool and unusual shot Max you don't see many running portraits, nice low angle for this. :toast:

Hey Max,

Good job on saving this one (sometimes I think animals know what lenses you have on and intentionally thwart us! ). The action associated with both paws is great, and those kicked-up sand grains add further dynamism to the shot. If it's possible, I wouldn't mind seeing slightly more space on the left of the frame.

Cheers...

I love that the feet are airborne! The grains of sand are key to adding interest. Neat capture.
