A Royal Gathering

I had a great Labor Day weekend meeting up with Doug Koepsel, Karl Buiter, Peter Coskun and others at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Forecasts were for very clear skies but we lucked out two of the three nights with a nice display of clouds for sunset. This image is from Cape Royal- possibly the best vista on the rim.

1 second exposure @ f/22,10mm (aps-c), Grad ND. SEE LARGE VERSION

Beautiful moment captured. On my monitor it's a little dark down there in the valley.

Wonderful moment, and the darkness looks very natural to my eye. The flowers in the FG add some nice interest and those clouds are gorgeous.

Thanks Ron & Kathy. Yes, is is a tad dark in the canyon but I didn't want to bring up the shadows more otherwise I feel that the balance would be too unnatural.

I like the dark presentation. Very well captured and processed. The color looks wonderful. :toast:

Very nice, Doug. I think it might be a little dark, but pretty darn sweet as is. :toast:

Bob, shooting the canyon into the sunset or sunrise is hard as the canyon acts like a black hole. That was a nice sunset. You may have been able to use f/11 at 10mm with the crop sensor and still get the depth of field needed and not have the diffraction of f/22

Very nice comp and colors in this Bob and a very nice foreground also. Seems a bit dark to me but it's about what you prefer. Very nicely done image.
