Gull and Squid

Western Gull with what looks to be a small squid in its mouth.

Canon 7d
100-400 mm at 400mm
1/100 at F9.0
ISO 400
not sure why I chose these settings, but the sun was rising and shining directly on the gull.

thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions for improvements always appreciated and helpful.

P.S. Is this better as a head shot or would it be better with the entire bird in the shot?

This is really cool with the squid and the lighting. I'm not sure how I feel about the background - almost looks like you used a flash because of how bright the beak/squid is. Maybe you could play around with the tones and curves a touch

Nice detail and a cool portrait, Allen. The squid makes this one.
