Lesser Yellowlegs

I spent a morning last week watching these birds fighting and chasing one another along the shoreline. Whenever one would land to feed, a neighboring bird would take exception and drive him off, which is what happened in the image here. There was a massive algae bloom in the waters of the lake which has closed the beach to swimming, and which accounts for the very odd bright green weed color onshore and in the waves breaking in the background.

A superb action shot Chuck ! I love the flying bird and the other bird having both feet off the ground. :toast:

Well, I suspect closing for swimming gives you less interruptions. Excellent image, Chuck with great action.

I only see these guys in breeding plumage up here; nice to see them in basic. Nice interaction and detail; the low angle also helps. Good stuff.
