I was gone this past week up to the north shore of Lake Superior. I had to deliver some large framed prints to a lodge up there so decided to stay for a few days and work on some new images. I enjoyed the conditions I found for the most part which included some high winds and huge waves last Wednesday. I will post some of the wave images soon. This one was shot in the early morning at Gooseberry Falls and is the middle falls out of the three main ones. Thanks for looking and any thoughts. Larger version included.
5D3, 24-105L @105mm, ISO 100, F/14 and 0.4 sec.
Posted one of the wave pictures in the M&N gallery if you care to take a look.

How timely and inviting this scene is for us folks living in So Cal and presently mired in a nasty heat wave right now, Nick.... :frown:

The cascading water seems to be just right throughout the scene here. The thumbnail is slightly dark, but the larger version allows excellent viewing of the shadowed areas. I do also like the diagonal flow of the longer cascade too. Seems like the centering of it makes for a very good focal point overall. Nice work as always.

I would never have guessed upper Midwest for this image, but that's true for a lot of your work. The light and processing look spot-on as usual. Compositionally, I find the black in the center of the frame and the water to the outside tends to pull my eye out of the frame, especially towards the URC. I'm wondering if some vignetting would help.

Thanks Paul and Tony. As always I appreciate your thoughts.
Tony, Yes, I had some thoughts like that as well but still enjoyed the shot so I thought I would post it here and find out what others thought. That is what is so cool about this site. I did add a little vignetting already because of that and maybe adding more would be helpful here. Thanks guys! Nick

Well done! Good detail and balance, and an appropriate shutter speed. :toast:

I did this version with more vignetting added on the right side. Tony thought it might help keep the eye in the frame a little better and I think it did. Nick

Nick, I think that idea to place some more vignetting to dampen the light on that rear fall worked well. I like the repost very much.

The rock colors are wonderfully warm, and the shutter speed is perfect for me. Very nice.

Thanks so much guys for your comments!
Gary, I was kind of thinking this might work well as a b&w too. Maybe I'll give it a try. Cheers, Nick

nice little falls! The repost looks better, but personally I would brighten this more, especially the highlights, which look gray on my monitor.

Perfect shutter speed for me Nick. I agree with TK's assessment, but that's minor for me. The repost is an improvement. I also agree with Stan about the highlights, where some brightening (not too much)would help. Very nice intimate falls image!

Thank you Stan and Joe! I brightened this just a bit overall and also brought the highlights up just a little. Starting to get it dialed in I think. Appreciate the help on it and the great suggestions. Nick

The last version nailed it beautifully, Nick. This is a wonderful intimate view of the falls and the brightening of the highlights gives this just a bit more punch.

Pat, Ed and Catherine, Thanks so much! Yes, I did get good suggestions on this and I'm quite happy with the final results. I made the same adjustments to the print file I have for this image but have not printed it yet. Thank you, Nick

Love the diagonals, Nick, and the nice textures in the rock. The silky flow of the water is just right in my opinion. Love the large image of course. Outstanding work as always. The second repost looks spot on.
So good to hear that you are selling so many prints.
