I have really just started shooting photographs under a year ago. I love all nature photography but truly enjoy macro. I want feed back because I am self taught and I want to get better. Criticism helps us to learn. I love dragon fly eyes and this is one of my favorites.

Welcome to NPN, Justin! An excellent image, and a good first posting. Some suggestions for future posts: the maximum limits for small image posts is 720 pixels on the long side/300KB. You can post a large image up to 1200pixels on the long side/500kb. You are under no obligation to do so, but if you want the best constructive criticism, larger posts are better. Also, if you post the parameters of the shot (aperture, shutter speed and ISO), it is helpful in correcting obvious errors. Concerning this image, the view of the eyes is outstanding, but it is very contrasty as a whole and there is no detail in the blacks.

Welcome to NPN and to the Macro & Close up gallery, Justin. Your first post of these DF eyes is impressive. Well composed, too. Would love to see it larger. I would encourage you to review the posting guidelines. To see the guidelines, go to "Site tips" under galleries, then scroll down to the "posting photos" heading, and then click on the guidelines link right below. As Phil commented, you can post images up to 720 pixels on the long side and 300KB, so this could have been posted much larger which would allow everyone to better appreciate the image and provide more educated comments. When you post, you also have the option to also post a larger image up to 1200 pixels on the long side (500 kb). If you view other posts, you'll see what I mean. Finally, it's also a good idea to provide some techs (e.g., camera, lens, focal length, shutter speed, fstop, iso, etc.). This is an educational forum, (most here are self taught, I would presume) and posting the techs helps everyone learn. It also gives viewers more information on providing technical shooting suggestions. Again, welcome to NPN. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. :wavey: :toast:

Great eye segment details Justin, well framed portrait closeup.
I need to see it larger as Phil & Scott have mentioned, to say more than this.
