Dewey Rose

Hi all.

Posting a few other flower photos before I go back to posting a few more dahlias.

I do not have many chances to shoot roses, but the Thanksgving Point Gardens in Lehi, UT have a section of the garden with roses in it.

I had to look hard to find a good specimen, but I really liked this one.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Center swirl of petals placed in an optimal spot in the photo. I could use some more DOF, but I think that the shallow DOF works with the abstraction of the form...............................Jim

Very nice comp Nathan. Good find. It is a beautiful rose and the swirl pattern is clean and interesting without being just another perfect swirl. The dew drops add a lot of interest. Well seen and taken!

Nathan - Great swirls and really nice and fine dew. Reminds me of bubble-gum, sherbet and such things.

In my experience, F/8 is usually not enough (unless the petals are all in more or less the same plane). F/11 to F/16 is where usually play with these swirls.

I really like the intricate patterns in the rose, Nathan. The dew adds an interesting texture to the edges. Agree with others on a greater DOF. Specifically, I think having the petal edge on the URC would enhance this image.

A captivating image with really nice colors. For me I find these images work better with the upper part of the petals in focus and gradually blurring down.
