Purple Martin, female. Taken near Tucson, Arizona.
They nest mostly on man-made 'martin' houses, but they also nest in tree cavities and in Southeastern Arizona, they prefer the cavities in Saguaro cactuses. Here a mama Martin is flying back and forth among the Saguaros bringing food to the young.

D800, 300mm f/2.8 + TC20III, 1/2500 f/8 ISO 1600

Tjie,
Looking at the thumbnail the first obvious comment was is the background OK.
In the larger version it does not look as distracting, did you get any frames without the cactus?

Still a remarkably good capture with great detail :toast: :toast:

Great detail/DOF in your flight shot Tjie, I like it.
The OOF cacti/nesting hole give a good frame of reference, well done! :toast:

An excellent and very difficult shot Tjie, I like the cactus and nest hole which provides reference to both habitat and behavior. :toast:

Wonderful image. Great wing position. Bird is sharp and the cactus background with cavity adds greatly to the story. Not and easy shot to capture well.
