Leopard Descending
by Richard Sandor
Once before on this trip, I had watched a leopard descend from a tree. I wasn't able though, to get all the cat's tail in the shot. Luckily, I was presented with a second opportunity. This time I was ready with the camera in portrait orientation.
What was most amazing when the leopard descended, was that it appeared to "walk" down the trunk. In the sequence I took, the leopard took 4 or 5 steps down the trunk in an absolutely vertical position and didn't jump until it was about 5 feet from the ground.
About 15% of the left side has been cropped. Taken with a D4 and 80-400 at 260, 1/2000, f/7.1 and auto ISO. Richard

8 commentsAlways a difficult shot to get and totally dependent on where the Leopard chooses to descend, certainly looks like you were in the right place here!
Glad you got this before the Leopard got lower as you have avoided the background shrubbery
Placement, pose, light, framing, all top notch.
Where was this? Guessing Sabi-Sands or Timbavati?
Small World?
Last time we visited Tintswalo was in April 2004, when we used to do visits for a Travel Agent ( I really admit to that, but I do not do it anymore), I cannot remember seeing Leopards then
