Bishop Creek Morning + rp

Early morning aspens along Bishop Creek in the Sierra. Five minutes later, the sun crested the ridge, so this was the only exposure I made.

Tachihara 4x5
180mm Fujinon with 81-b
Velvia 100
TK's Triple Play and Saturation/Vibrance Masks
October 2006

Please see the large version. Compression is hurting the small one. Thanks!

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Edit: Re-posted image is below. Thanks.

Looks very familiar here, Preston. I recall when you and Youssef were setup on the hill behind me during this event. This came out very nice all the way around. As you've mentioned these fall scenes have a horrendous problem with compression, just too much detail when scaling down for web usage. I think some of mine come in around 4-5 many times on the quality scale.
At full size I could see this one making a real neat large wall hanger though, very nice.

Paul, I thought you might remember that day--it was a beauty, as were the other days we spent together that year!

Just a not that this probably the third version of this that I've worked over the years--I think this one is 'the one'.

Thanks for compliments, gents!

Preston, pretty autumn scene to say the least, and I really like the warm peaceful mood it conveys, beautiful natural color, along with composition makes this scene very appealing. Beautifully seen and presented.

I like the colors here Preston. Struggling with the empty space at the top though.

The colors here are amazing and the elements are arranged nicely. I agree with Prashan about the empty space at the top. Otherwise, very good work on this, Preston. Chet

Lovely Preston. Brings memories of New England foliage to mind. A small, intimate landscape that is just as striking as the more famous eastern ones. Really like the colors you've got here - great palette. The empty spot in the top BG doesn't bother me too much. A small crop would take care of most of it though. Will this one making a wall hanging for you?

A grand scenery! Agree about removing some at the top. Perhaps also reduce brightness in the yellows a tad.

What a blast of color in all its shades of autumn. I am a bit on the fence on the composition, as I have a bit of a wandering eye over it. But it really captures some great autumn glory.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, everyone!

I decided to crop from the top and a bit from each side for a 4:5 ratio. I also did a bit of edge burning and dropped the brightness of the yellows in the central part of the image.

Here's the Large Version

I'd appreciate your thoughts on the redux.

Thanks,

Second post works nicer with the changes you've made on it, Preston. It's always nice when others can provide help with ideas like this.

I prefer the original Preston. The rocks interest me and even though they're at the top I feel like they anchor the image. I do prefer the darker yellows and edge burning.

The soft light sure lets all of the subtle colors sing here, Preston. I like the eye movement that the big wedge of trees adds. The crop works very well.
