Last fall I took a trip up to Moon Falls in the Umpqua National Forest, a beautiful 100 foot waterfall that is not often visited, and as so often happens, my favorite photo of the trip had nothing to do with the waterfall and was instead this shot of a maple leaf in a stream. I do wish I'd used a faster shutter speed so there was more texture in the water, but I also like how the leaf appears to be surrounded by smoke.

Thomas, I often have the same experience. That just shows you are staying creative and keeping your options for shooting open. That in itself is a learned skill. I too wish for a little more detail in your water, but love the colour and detail in the leaf. :toast:

Beauty, Thomas. Love the love of the wet yellow leaf on the brownish rock. Well seen and composed. I am not sure about using an 8 sec ss, but the softness of the water "focuses" the viewer right on the leaf and rock.

Beautiful. I think bringing out more texture in the water might have been nice, but just in a different way. I think the softness of the water here helps focus on the leaf, and gives the composition upward movement. Very cool.

This is an interesting and quite dramatic presentation. The leaf looks great and the misty water works well. The larger version starts to show some subtle details in the rock, but I think that just a touch more dodging of the darks in the rock would be a nice addition.
