Cooper's Hawk

Grabbed this shot of the Cooper's Hawk a few days ago in low light, early morning after a storm. There was a branch that had fallen between me & the bird, did my best to minimize it..
Pretty much had to center the subject, no pixels to waste here. Shot in a vertical orientation.
F/4.5, 1/250th, ISO 640, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x @ 8:02 am & overcast.

Very nice capture Howard ! Great pose, details and lighting. I would crop a bit on the left side, but it is pretty good as it is. :toast:

This is gorgeous, Howard. The detail in the larger version is stunning. It's nice to be able to see such colorful detail in a bird of prey like this wonderful Cooper's Hawk. I struggle with my favorites off and on, included here would be falcons, kestrels, and of course all the hummingbirds. All great subjects IMO....... :toast:

Love the details you got on this Cooper's. Nice pose and good background. Maybe a square format with the somewhat jumbled foreground cropped out?

Neat to have this bird in your pond. I would have preferred a lower angle but with the branch it sounds like it wasn't possible. As posted I like the oof grasses framing the image in the fg. Very nice. :toast:
