Canon 1D-X, 300mm x 2.0TC, handheld from boat
f6.3, 1/500, ISO200

Rio Pixiam, Pantanal, Brazil. An important thing to know about the Pantanal is that it is hot. It was about 107° F when I took this photo. This birds were panting. I was melting, or at least it seemed like it. This hawk was standing in the bathtub temperature water and drinking to try to cool off.

60% of full frame. Selective sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

This is a very cool shot (no pun intended), the detail in the bird is great. The water dribbling from his beak tells the story well. Sweet shot Jim!

Fantastic image, Jim. Great action and I really like the angle, background and light. The hawk is very sharp and the water droplets make this unique. :toast:

This is a beauty Jim  Sweet action behavior you captured of this handsome hawk, the dripping water puts this over the edge for me.

I think this is a spectacular shot Jim. Beautiful detail and the drinking splashing down puts it over the top. I would however have been shooting it at a higher iso with that camera considering it's noise free at iso 800. If he takes off at 1/500 you probably won't have a decent image. Great image. :toast:
