Here's another shot from one of my Santa Clara ranch workshops this past spring. I liked the landing pose here. Set up perch with a feeder cup underneath.

Another killer action shot Nate  Great wing and tail spread, wonderful details. A very nice complimentary perch and background too.

Sweet Photo!

Perfect techs, Nate. I find myself wishing for a bit more rotation of the bird, showing more of the right wing, but you can only photograph what the bird gives you.

Excellent pose and light, again, Nate. The color combination is also very pleasing. One (really) minor nit is the oof branches on the lower left. Perhaps a smaller aperture would have got them too in focus. Nevertheless, great image and freeze. :toast:

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Govind, I agree it would be ideal if the whole plant was in focus. But to select a smaller aperture I would have either had to lower my speed (you need a lot of speed to get these guys in flight which is what I was trying to do) or increased my iso - above iso 1600 I don't like the results nearly as much.

Beautifully sharp Nate. I saw an article on that place - amazing. There's certainly nothing like that over here.
