Black Bear in Horsetails

I photographed this Black Bear feeding in horsetails near Whistler, BC this spring. I think it's considered a Cinnamon color phase. This was taken from my car window, it's a full frame shot cropped to vertical.

Canon 5D3 500F4 1/200 F5, iso 1600.

Excellent view of the eyes (not always easy). The setting is really fantastic. Lovely color and great texture in that vegetation.

I'm enjoying how he(?) is situated among the vivid green surroundings. And that mouthful of grass!

Really like seeing the dark mass of the bear against the vibrant greenery. Great detail in the bear as well as the surroundings. Richard

Excellent close-up of this beauty Nate  I think the surrounding greenery is what makes this shot for me.

Sweet One!!!

One of the best black bear shots I've ever seen. The eyes really make it for me.

Hi Nate,

What works best for me about this image is the contrast between the rich brown/cinnamon colours of the bear and the resplendent greens of the horsetails and other vegetation surrounding the bear. In a perfect world I think a lower angle might have added to this strength of this image (but maybe not...could be you be fighting vegetation all around the bear and not able to get a clear shot)...but understand how this isn't always possible to do.

Cheers...

Brad

Great shot of the eyes Nate. Love the contrast of the bright greens against the dark fur of the bear. Very nice.
