Grizzly Bear Cub

Sometimes animals do the most unexpected things. Here, this cub paused for a few seconds and rested its head on a bent over branch and cast a backward glance.
Taken with a D4 and 80-400 at 400, 1/400, f/5.6 and Auto ISO at 1250 with -1/3ev. Richard

Hi Richard,

So cute - looks to me like the cub is taking a short break from playing in its natural playground! I like your overall composition here and positioning of the cub within the frame couldn't be much better. My only nit is something that was totally outside your control - the slightly distracting bare (and bright) branches hanging down in the background. Might be worth experimenting with selectively toning these down a bit?

Cheers...

Richard,

Now this is what I call a strange pose, absolutely marvelous and quite possibly unique.I would also try to darken the branches in the upper right hand corner

Great stuff :toast: :toast:

Brad and Ken: thanks for the comments which are spot on. I had darkened the branches the around the cub, but for whatever reason, didn't do so for the background branches. Here's a re-do with the b/g branches darkened as well. Richard

Hi Richard,

For me your adjustment to the background branches had made a big difference to the shot - like it much better.

Cheers...
