Canon 1D-X, 300mm x 2.0TC, handheld
77.1, 1/640, ISO2000

Early morning light, Pousada Alegre, Pantanal, Brazil. I was focused on two Hyacinth Macaws when I head this handsome fellow drumming behind me.

60% of full frame. Adjustments to Levels; selective lightening of face. Selective sharpening of bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Must be tough being focused on the Macaws and having one of these show up! I like the composition. The bird seems really focused and intense, and love that tree. Must be closely related to our Pileated?

Excellent woodpecker image, Jim. Like all the elements - the classic pose, background and a perch with character. The light is also very good for most parts - though you might consider brightening the crown above and to right of the beak. :toast:

A great portrait of this handsome woodpecker Jim. A very sweet bonus, hopefully you got some great shots of the macaws too. I've been enjoying you photos from the Pantanal, I hope to get there someday.

I should have mentioned in my posting notes: this is a female Crimson-crested. The forelock, the front of the comb, is black in a female. For once, it's not my poor post-processing skills. Sorry for the confusion.
