Thought I'd join Jim on the early Zion bandwagon. I had a fun week backpacking in Utah last week, including two nights in the Zion backcountry. This was the first morning. Single image. D600, 18-35 at 18, f20, iso 100, .3, cpl, GND. Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome. :wavey:

Great light Scott and a strong composition. As a personal preference I might darken (bring the shadows down) this a touch to make the light pop a bit more but it's really nice exactly as posted.

Thanks, Pat. I think you were right, so here's a version with a bit darker foreground and middle ground. I also boosted the contrast. :wavey:

The couple of small changes in the repost made a beautiful scene even better IMO, Scott. Beautifully done.

Can't tell a whole lotta difference between the two images, but both look really good. That's some fantastic early morning light you captured...

Gorgeous capture! Composition and colors are great. I've recently moved to Utah and plan on going to Zion around Veteran's Day.

Outstanding! The foreground and the low vantage point really make this composition work. Well done. What morning was this? There were some clouds when I drove in late on Saturday. But I haven't seen a cloud since then.

Scott, I sure like this scene with the stream in the foreground, the sunlit peaks and a great sky. I think the darker foreground and brighter peaks in the repost work well, but am not sure about the contrast increase in the peaks. Looks like a neat place to hang out.

I really like the composition and natural color rendition. There are some blown out whites in the clouds that your GND didn't cover that get more pronounced when you increased the contrast so I would avoid that choice. More water in this desert than I saw in any creek in Yosemite this week :frown:

An engaging composition with lots of interest through the mid and background Scott. I particularly enjoy the gorgeous morning light on the mountains. Beautiful capture!!

I like the repost, Scott. I think the in your presentation works very well. Maybe abit more of the stream would help a little but very nice as presented. Zion, without the crowds, is divine. :wavey:

Nice flow to the image Scott. From a processing standpoint, I might try to reduce the cyan in the clouds over the mnts which may yield a little more detail in them. Might create a more 3D feel to the clouds. Well done as presented.

Love the POV and comp with the stream FG, a beautiful scene Scott.
I lean towards the very subtle changes.. although fairly hard to see at the small repost size.
Well done! :toast:

Zion provides the canvas for beautiful images but it takes the skilled photographers eye and brush (I.ei. Camera) to capture it for everyone else to enjoy. Very nicely done Scott! :toast:
