One of several "keeper" frames from an exhilarating cheetah sighting in the Mara Triangle last year. We saw even more kills during this year's trip, but our positioning was perfect on this one for some real close-up action shots.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f8.0 | 1/3200 SS | ISO-900

Hi, great action shot and composition, too. I like that you can see the emotions of both animals. This was an awesome angle! :wavey:

This is outstanding, Morkel. Timing of the stances of predator and pray, and the dust/dirt kicked up in the chase are wonderful. One of the best wildlife images I've seen in some time.

SUPERfantastalicious! Had to make up a word for this one Morkel. You have posted many excellent images over the years, but this one is top 5 at least for me. Love the action...doesn't get much better. :toast:

Hey Morkel,
Now this is a 'National Geographic' cover shot if ever there was one. I don't care how long you have been photographing nature, these are the kind of moments that make it all worth while and keep us all wanting to head out the next day for that illusive 'Money Shot'. IMO this is a perfect African scene that you have captured to perfection, the viewer knows what is most likely going to happen but there is still time to cheer for the escape of the under dog. There is no blood and guts just pure form and function in both subjects that depicts the harsh reality of survival in the wild.
Well done . . . :toast:

What a treat to see this unfold. The gazelle stretched across the frame with all that dirt and dust flying really makes it.

Hey Morkel,

Great action shot here - wonderful timing. What I personally like about this one is that the shot doesn't let you know the outcome of this encounter and I'm left wondering who prevailed here - predator or prey? Very nicely done...

Cheers...

The peak of action and a great angle to get this at Morkel, you can see the desperation in the gazelle and the intense look of the cat, sweet capture! :toast:

Hi Morkel,
Very impressive! Congratulations. Knowing how much time you spend "out there" and how much time I've spent, as well as others, and how rare such photos and opportunities are make me really appreciate such images. And with perfect light, great sun angle and eye contact puts this over the top.

For those who have not been on safari, one does not want to interrupt/influence the hunt, so one is usually far from the action. You can try and position yourself so that the action will come towards you, but it is unpredictable. It is amazing when it works.
