A Brief Pause #2

I went back to the photos to see if I could address the issues raised in the comments to my original post. At first I was going to leave part of the log in but decided to do a tight crop and see what happens. So, what we have here is about 35-40% of the original. Sure looks better. Held up reasonably well but isn't tack sharp. Still, I think it rescues it a bit and helps me get better. Adjustments are similar to the previous one. What do you think? Is this better or should I just forget it?

Tech Info

Canon EOS 60D with EF 70-200mm f/4 at 200mm
1/500th at f/4 and ISO 1000
Cropped to 35% of original

Lightroom 5

Peter, really like this one!! Not tack sharp, but a stronger image IMHO. Thanks for the repost.

Hi Peter,

Have to be honest here - this doesn't work too well for me. The chopped off lower legs are just too big of an issue for me to ignore. If this happened to be a full frame shot the solution would be a tighter crop, but given it's a huge crop already (35% - really? When I look at the original shot it looks to be less than 10% of the full image) going tighter here isn't an option. I have nothing at all against cropping (though I think it's been used a little too much to "solve" image problems these days) - it's always been done. But it is self-limiting in terms of the pixels that remain in an image after cropping and, consequently, what could be done with the image (not enough pixels to print bigger than the size of a credit card, etc.).

So...in my view...I'd just forget it! Hey...we all shoot shots that just don't work - trust me...I do it all the time!

Cheers...
